finding treasures amidst the junk

Today Caitlin and I tried to go to the vintage clothing store on Masada st. We got there, but sadly they were closed early on Tuesdays. Caitlin was really disappointed, since the last time she tried they were also closed. I was also disappointed since it took 30 minutes to shlep down there. We made note of the times they were open and are planning a return trip soon. After that, we tried to go to the art store so I could buy some big paper, but we took some advantage of some nearby stairs, not in the recommended direction, and got horribly lost. They were nice stairs though, and they went past a pretty garden.

We stumbled upon this junk-antique store, somewhere past Wadi Nisnas (the primarily Arab part of town). We would have never known it was there had we not gotten lost. I didn't really feel like being there at first, but it was sooo cool once you got inside and started looking closer at everything.

There was a tiny book of psalms (tehilim) I liked, in both english and hebrew. Caitlin was looking at old black and white pictures of random people... she ended up getting some. I found a ring I really loved, silver and about 1cm long with a middle eastern looking city carved as a design. On the inside it said something in Hebrew. I asked the man how much it was and he said 200 shekel. I was like," too expensive" and put it down, even though I really wanted it. I kept looking around.. they had a TON of old manual cameras, which... if I knew anything about which ones were good, I would have been interested. Anyway, the man came back to me and said in Hebrew "how much are you willing to pay for the ring?" I said 50 shekel, which was probably the most I would fork over. He couldn't accept that. I was sad. He said I was beautiful and offered me coffee and asked me where I was staying. Still, not good enough for a discount on the ring. waaaa.

After that, we finally found our way back. The art store was closed but I got some groceries so it was all good.

Phew. I'm getting used to walking a lot again, after Tel Aviv and now all over Hadar. I like these exploratory days. Maybe next time I'll be more successful in coming home with a treasure.
